An Area History
In the late 1870s, the area where the Fleur-de-Lis will be built was the site of the Gravois Brick Company. By the late 1880s wealthy businessmen had begun building their mansions on this prestigious block. The grandest of these still standing is the Ferdinand Herold mansion located at 3155 South Jefferson. It was built in 1888 by Mr. Herold who was the owner of the Cherokee Brewery and The Cherokee, a freight and passenger steamboat. His son Theodore built his mansion at the southwest corner of Wyoming and South Jefferson in 1887. The Neudorf Home located at 3147 South Jefferson was built in 1897 and the Schollmeyer Home at 3143 South Jefferson in 1886. With the construction of the Fleurs-de-Lis, Millennium will be bringing back a bit of splendor and charm to this historic block.
