What is Write-Down Assistance?

Write-down Assistance is a tool provided by the City of St. Louis Community Development Administration (CDA) to ensure opportunities for affordable homes in market rate developments, particularly in appreciating neighborhoods. Eligible homebuyers are first-time buyers (have not owned a home within the last three years) with incomes up to 100% of median (see table for maximum household incomes by family size).

To be eligible to take advantage of Write-Down Assistance for any of the homes above, the buyer will need to:

  1. Determine Income Eligibility (see chart above and talk with Claire Vogt).
  2. Receive pre-purchase counseling through Beyond Housing. Pre-purchase counseling will provide information on the obligations and responsibilities associated with owning a home, help you develop strategies to establish good credit if necessary and refer you to lending institutions and mortgage products. Buyer has to attend three classes at Beyond Housing at a cost of $75 and can receive $3,300 toward Closing Costs. Call Beyond Housing at (314) 533-0600
  3. Meet with mortgage lender Robert Fishel (314) 372-4319 at Paramount Mortgage to obtain a mortgage loan approval.
